Who We Are??
THE GO FOR BROKE ASSOCIATION is a 501(c)(19) non-profit veterans organization. The regular voting member of the Association is, "Every person who performed honorable military service with the 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate), 442d Regimental Combat Team, 442d Regiment, 100th Battle Group, 100th Battalion, 442d Regiment; or any predecessor unit at any time" (1978 Bylaws). The Association is incorporated on February 27, 1978 for the following purpose: To provide for the voluntary and mutual assistance, entertainment, enjoyment, and social improvement of the members of the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry United States Army Reserve (USAR). 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry USAR is in recruiting and retention effort and maintain the unit at the highest strength attainable to enable the unit to effectively participate in the defense of the United States of America, To provide generally for the moral, mental, and physical well-being of its members, and To acquire property for the Corporate purposes by grant, gift, purchase, devise or bequest, and to hold and to dispense of the same, subject to such limitations as army be prescribed by law. Our History
August 15, 1946, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, including the 100th Infantry Battalion, was Inactivated at Honolulu, Hawaii.
March 27, 1947 it was allotted to the Organized Reserves.
July 31, 1947 Organized Reserves Activated with Headquarters at Fort DeRussy, Hawai'i.
March 25, 1948 - Organized Reserves redesignated as the Organized Reserve Corps.
July 9, 1952 - Organized Reserves Corps redesignated as the Army Reserve
May 29, 1959: The 100th Battle Group, 442d Infantry was officially dedicated as a Ready Reserve unit in Honolulu, Hawaii stationed at Fort DeRussy, Hawaii under the Commanding Officer Colonel Walter Mookini until 1960.
May 1, 1964: The DoD re-named the unit the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry (USAR). The 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry Regiment USAR, is the remaining infantry unit in the U.S. Army Reserve force structure.
During the Korean War, all company grade officers and senior NCOs were recalled to active duty. The battalion also participated in "Operation Koolau" with the 25th Infantry Division and "Exercise Coral Sands" with the 11th Infantry Brigade (1965).
May 13, 1968, The 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry (USAR) was mobilized on May 13, 1968 at Fort DeRussy, Hawai'i during the Vietnam War Era, to provide individual replacements and as a strategic reserve unit. Nine soldiers were killed in action.
12 December 1969, 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry (USAR) after returning from active military service and the unit reverted back to reserve status.
December 1980, a detachments element was activated at Pago Pago, American Samoa and evolved to become Company B.
Several months later, Company C was established in Guam and on the Island of Saipan in the Marianas.
In 1989, Company C was relocated from Saipan to Pago Pago, American Samoa.

September 1, 1994, Headquarters changed to Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
February 15, 1999, Company A was inactivated from Fort DeRussy, Honolulu,Hawaii
February 16, 1999, Company E was established on Guam, with Echo Detachment 1 on the Island of Saipan.
Headquarters and Headquarters Company Detachment 1 is located in Hilo, Hawai'i.

Ordered into active military service 16 August 2004 at Fort Shafter, Hawaii
August 16, 2004, the Battalion was mobilized for duty in support of Operation Iraq Freedom III with the 29th Infantry Brigade (Seperate) of the Hawaii Army National Guard from Honolulu, Hawaii. The lengthy training took them from Schofield Barrack, Hawaii onto the training ground of Fort Bliss, Texas, and to Fort Polk, Lousiana, and further to Kuwait and the final location stationed 50 miles northwest of Baghdad at Logistical Support Area Anaconda.

Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry Regiment
January 2006: The 29th Infantry Brigade (Seperate) of the Hawaii Army National Guard and the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry Regiment USAR returned to Hawaii following a successful mission in Iraq. The 100th Battalion / 442d Infantry Regiment USAR was awarded its Meritorious Unit Commendation for service in Iraq. Five members of the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry were Five Killed in Action and with deployed of 732 Soldiers.
During the year-long deployment one of the unit discovering over 50+ weapons caches while deployed in Iraq. Unlike the soldiers of World War II who were predominantly Japanese Americans these soldiers came from as far away as United States of America, Alaska, Hawaii, Philippines, Samoa, Guam, Saipan and Palau.
Released from active military service 13 March 2006 and reverted to reserve status
March 2007: A small platoon size element (29 Soldiers) from Company D of the 100th Battalion / 442d Infantry USAR were place on active military status for duty in the Philippine's with a Joint Forces Service mission.

August 19, 2008 - The 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry USAR received active military service orders attached with the 29th Infantry Brigade (Seperate) of the Hawaii Army National Guard with combat Training at Fort Hood, Texas and follow on duty in Iraq and Kuwait.
During the deployment of the Battalion which performed many more combat mission in Kuwait and Iraq, performing over 1500 combat missions covering 1.3 million miles of roads.
August 2009 - 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry USAR was release from active military service and reverted back to reserve status. Unit lost two Soldiers, SSG Manglona (non-combat) while training at Fort Hood, Texas and SPC Hill (Kill In Action) in Operation Iraqi Freedom XI.

On September 16, 2010 the 740th Combat Support Company was activated under the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment (USAR) with a special support for maintenance, cooks, transportation, fuel, and logistical assistance.

The current Soldiers sang to honor Nisei veterans who had served before them and to display pride for the continued legacy of service in the “Go for Broke” Bn.

June 2015, 100th Bn., 442nd Inf. Regt. Soldier provides security during the battalion’s JRTC rotation with the 3rd BCT, 25th ID, at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
November 2016, 100th Battalion Soldiers participate in amphibious landing training with multi-national armies and marines during Exercise Croix du Sud 2016, Plum, New Caledonia, Nov. 15. Croix du Sud, which means “Southern Cross” in French, is a multinational military exercise organized every two years by the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia, with a scenario based on the devastating aftermath of a category four cyclone. June 18, 2017, Soldiers of Echo Company and Bravo Company, 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment receive instruction from an Observer/Controller (OC) of the 196th Infantry Brigade (Training Support Brigade) during exercise Lava Forge, at Kahuku Training Area, Hawaii.
June 2017, Lt. Col. Kenneth Tafao, outgoing commander of the 100th Inf. Bn., is passed the battalion colors during a change of command ceremony, June 22, at Fort Shafter Flats, U.S. Army Reserve Daniel K. Inouye Complex. Tafao relinquished command to Lt. Col. Matthew L. Cloud, a native of Illinois. Col. Joseph A. Ricciardi, commander, 303rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, and Command Sgt. Maj. Joshua T. Mason, command sergeant major, 100th Inf. Bn., witnessed the ceremony.
August 27, 2017, Charlie Company of 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry (USAR) which located in American Samoa, Historic 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry (USAR), Welcomes Army Reserve’s 1st Female Infantry Commander with the passing of the Company guidon from receiving 1st Lietenant Siva to Lt. Col. Matthew Cloud into CPT Carneen Cotton.
On May 12, 2018 were held a 50th Annivarsary Celebration of the first activation of the 100th Battalion 442d Infantry United States Army Reserve (USAR) on 27 July 1947. This is conducted on the 41st Go For Broke Association Annual Dinner meeting for members.
May 2018, Echo Company, 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, 9th Mission Support Command, pull security as military trucks and other equipment disembark from a floating vessel in Koumac, New Caledonia, May 20, during Croix Du Sud. Croix Du Sud is a multi-joint exercise consisting of military forces from several countries conducting military air, land and maritime operations.
July 2018, Bravo Company, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, 9th Mission Support Command, during a situational training exercise at East Range in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, July 11, 2018. The exercise will validate the unit’s skills in preparation for Lightning Forge 18.
November 2018, Echo Company, 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, 9th Mission Support Command, clear debris along Beach Road, Garapan, in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yutu, Oct. 29, Saipan.
8 December 2018, The "Go For Broke Association" Board of Director' Annually visit ten (10) graves site of our fallen combat veterans that Kill in action while served with 100th Battalion 442nd Infantry United States Army Reserve (U.S.A.R) at the National Cemetery Punchbowl of the Pacific, Mililani Cemetery and Hawaii Cemetery (Hilo, Hawaii). The visiting those Vietnam KIA's of nine (9) Soldiers and Operation Iraqi Freedom - SGT Cariage, Deyson K. This year the tenth Soldier were added base on the information of the Commander of Charlie Company Doug Hill during OIF-3 mission. Reminder on this video the person laying the lei served with 9 Soldier during Vietnam Era.

1-3 March 2019, Elite Soldiers compete for title of "Best Warrior". The Army Reserve winners were Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Sgt. Christopher Hadley, Bravo Co., 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment and Soldier of the Year Spc. John Aquino, Echo Co., 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment.

August 7, 2023 - Army Reserve Soldiers support Joint Task Force Red Hill
In October, more than 30 Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, to support Joint Task Force Red Hill throughout most of 2023. Known as the Gorilla Crew, the task force provides logistical support and workforce to Code 700 Fuels Department, Naval Supply System Command Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor. The Soldiers assist with operations and maintenance of the fuel distribution systems at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. Safety/fire watch detail support is also part of the mission with JTF Red Hill.

Since its reactivation, the unit underwent several organizational changes between 1947 and current; from a Battle Group to a Battalion, and finally, to its current structure. Today, the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment (USAR) is the only ground combat unit in the United States Army Reserves.
Soldiers in the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment (USAR) are well aware of the heritage they inherited and the record they must uphold from the original 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regiment Combat Team, the most decorated unit size and length of service in the many years history of the United States Army.
