Go For Broke Association 2025 Scholarship Application guidelines deadline: March 15, 2025
Background
The Go For Broke Association announces its Scholarship Program for the year 2025 through its website, https://www.gfbassn.org, and begins accepting applications from September 1, 2024 through March 15, 2025. All completed applications must be sent, post-marked no later than March 15, 2025.
The Go For Broke Association was established in 1978 as a 501 (c) (19), is a veteran’s non-profit organization. Twenty years later, the Association initiated a scholarship program to encourage Soldiers serving in the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, graduate or post graduate studies. As both State and Federal governments extended education incentives, the Association extends the scholarship program to the Soldier’s immediate and extended family.
Today, the Association’s Scholarship Program provides current life members, Soldiers and immediate family members of active reservist assigned to the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, and a Life Member’s grandchildren with up to $4,000.00 awards to students attending a post-secondary institution or to high school seniors that have received acceptance to an institute of higher education.
The Go For Broke Association strives to:
- Preserve the legacy of "Go For Broke" spirit, established by the World War II nisei veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442d Regimental Combat Team, and continued through the Soldiers of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, from the Vietnam, Iraq, Kuwait conflicts.
- Provide incentives for the Association's Life Members, Soldiers of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, and/or family members to pursue post-secondary education.
- Assist students enrolled in institutes of higher education with the costs of post-secondary education.
Eligibility
The applicant must be or have:
1. A Life Member of the Go For Broke Association (GFBA), or
2. A spouse or child of a GFBA Life Member, or
3. A Soldier currently serving in the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment. A GFBA Life Member must sponsor all non-members, or.
4. A spouse of child of a Soldier currently serving the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment. A GFBA Life Member must sponsor all non-members, or.
5. A granchild of a GFBA A Life Member.
6. Successfully graduated from grade 12, or .
7. Earned a General Education Diploma (GED), or.
8. Enrolled, or accepted into a program at an accredited post-graduate or post-secondary education institution that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
Education:
The Go For Broke Association's Scholarship awards up to $4,000.00 to its awardees at its Annual Dinner Meeting on May 10, 2025.
The Scholarship Committee gives preference to legal Hawaii residents attending Hawaii institutions. Previous recipients may apply but the Committee will consider the application only if there are no other qualifying applicants.

Directions
1. Applicant Essay - 1,000-word maximum, share your knowledge of the famed World War II Nesie units, the 100th Infantry Battalion or the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, how its historical accomplishments have benefited yourself, and the proposed use of the scholarship funds.
2. Two (2) supporting letters from anyone (other than the applicant) who can provde the nominating committee with a perspective as to why the applicant is deserving of this scholarship.
3. Submit a photo of yourself (required) and a short one-minute video introducing yoursel (optional).
4. Mail all documents to the address provided below, postmarked no later than March 15, 2025; or e-mail electroni copy to www.https://gfbassn.org.
